Summary
The Business Development Manager works directly with the Chief Business Development Officer, Executive Directors (EDs) of the firm’s industry teams, and practice group leaders. This individual coordinates, manages and tracks business development activities conducted in connection with the practice groups. He/She interacts heavily with members of the Business Development and Marketing Operations teams in the implementation of strategic initiatives and events.
Responsibilities
Strategize with Practice Group Leaders to identify appropriate marketing initiatives, such as pitches and proposals, seminars/conferences, blogs, articles, events and presentations.
Develop and maintain marketing materials, such as deal or case lists, practice descriptions and Web site content; examples include: Gather, organize and draft matter descriptions to maintain group experience lists. Leads the charge on overall management of the firm’s experience database.
Gather, organize and disseminate information on group news, events and publications.
Collaborate with attorneys on content for publications (internal or external).
Assist attorneys with updating biographies or providing appropriate materials for speaking events.
Implement and track business development efforts in support of the practice groups’ business plans. Track and report on business development initiatives; responsible for reporting activity data into the shared tracking system. Meet with attorneys on a reoccurring basis to discuss practice group and/or individual BD goals and initiatives.
Maintain a complete record of all pitches and report data into the shared tracking system; document qualifying pitches for Mansfield reporting purposes.
Prepare award, survey and listing submissions, including gathering data for submissions, crafting the appropriate message and submitting the final documents.
Evaluate event opportunities and sponsorships consistent with the groups’ strategic plans and assist in implementation as needed, coordinating with the Events Manager.
Assist on special projects as assigned by the Chief Business Development Officer.
Respond to various requests from attorneys across practice groups and industry teams as needed: Strategically customize materials for the target client, referral source, etc.
Respond to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and pitches for new business, collaborating with others in the BD department and across the firm.
Assist attorneys with content and formatting of PowerPoint presentations.
Complete production aspects (writing, editing, fact checking, proofreading, assembling of each of the above) to ensure materials are delivered accurately and on time.
Work with the groups’ attorneys and the Content team to assist with external communications including alerts, articles, and other media opportunities. Provide assistance on social media, podcast and blog postings.
Utilize firm subscriptions and other available resources to perform research on clients and prospects at attorney request.
Utilize basic skills in graphic design to perform formatting and design of handouts, brochures, etc.
Qualifications
Excellent writing/editing, proofreading, grammar and research skills. Writing samples will be requested.
Demonstrated self-confidence and problem-solving skills.
Self-motivated and driven to calmly and efficiently produce top quality results on time and under strict deadlines.
Willingness to work additional hours, as at times job will require more than 40 hours per week.
Excellent organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
Ability to perform a variety of complex and diverse tasks and exercise good business judgment and diplomacy in complex situations.
Flexibility to work in a non-structured, varying role.
Expert level capability with core Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Experience editing online content using Content Management System interface.
Experience with InterAction and HubSpot or other CRM software.
Experience with Intapp, BigSquare/Aderant or similar legal industry accounting reporting tools.
