Relationships, Commodities and Making Connections

By Harrison Barnes

Employment Research Institute's Chief Executive Officer, A. Harrison Barnes, in a webinar discussed the need to escape the world from being considered a commodity and creating value for others by connecting with them.

A lot many people consider others to be commodities. They believe that everything can be bought with money and to their misfortune, miss out on some of the greatest things in life. Loving, bonding, understanding, sharing, connecting, these make life beautiful and meaningful, and the absence of them renders a lifeless existence. Harrison believes that it is wrong to consider others as commodities. Here, the emotional bond is missing. In order to be consistently creating value, you need to understand others and where they want to go, what motivates them and what is important to them. Once you understand this, you have essentially created a unique bond with the other person and your involvement with him or her will be greatly valued. Creating a bond is one of the most important things that you should always attempt to do, which ultimately leads you to help others become better and have brighter futures.

Harrison states that one of the easiest ways to get ahead in any organization is to understand where your supervisors and the company you are working for want to go. How can you make this connection? You simply need to sit down with the people you work for and talk about how you can help them get there. This will set you apart from other employees. You need to move beyond the common and establish yourself as someone with unique skills, talents and value. You need to appeal to the people you work for on an emotional, and not just a practical level. In this way, you are able to make people feel protected and help them maximize their experience and effectiveness in the world.

Only SellingCrossing consolidates every job it can find in the domain and puts all of the job listings it locates in one place.

  • We have more jobs than any other job board.
  • We list jobs you will not find elsewhere that are hidden in small regional publications and employer websites
  • We collect jobs from more than 4,429,376 websites and post them on our site.
  • We are private, and therefore far fewer people are applying for the jobs on our site than are applying for those on public job boards.
What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
