What is the role?

The US Commercial & Industrial Natural Gas team is tasked with the meticulous management of our end user portfolio, supporting the customer base in minimizing their energy costs and exposure to commodity risk. Shell holds a broad footprint in this space, with access to sizeable, reliable gas reserves across the U.S., and backed by one of the industry’s largest trading operations.

We offer a suite of pricing and volume management solutions that are tailored to each customer’s budget and risk appetite. Our success is driven by a strong collaboration with our regional Trade desks, providing competitive offers and market intelligence to customers across the country.

Responsibilities:

The Team Lead is responsible for the retention and maintenance of a broad portfolio of Commercial & Industrial natural gas end users across the U.S. They will lead a team of 7 account managers across multiple offices responsible for the daily optimization of customer volumes to meet strict utility requirements, minimize supply costs, and prevent penalties. The team is also tasked with the execution of incremental trades and customer renewals in alignment with commercial targets and retention rates. Direct reports will be located in both our San Diego and Houston offices.

The position reports to the US Commercial & Industrial Gas Manager and will be responsible for the design and implementation of a retail deal management model, including digital tools, systems, and processes to increase portfolio scalability and minimize cost-to-serve. The lead will also identify and deliver a framework of controls across the retail value chain, including key metrics to highlight portfolio performance. The role will collaborate with C&I Originators in shaping strategy and product development.

The retail C&I natural gas space has a long deal-management cycle with little room for error. The person in this role will need to lead exceptionally well with self-drive and a strong passion for continuous improvement in order to stand up a framework of processes, tools, and controls for scalability. This is a multi-faceted role in a dynamic and evolving space of our commodity business.

Accountabilities :


Contribute to the delivery of Commercial targets related to the C&I end user customer base across the U.S.
Maintain a productive, collaborative relationship with Trade Desks in the Pacific Northwest, Desert Southwest, Midwest, South, MidAtlantic, and New England markets.
Establish a strong culture of commercial mindset and proactive customer care across the team to maximize performance, retention rates and customer satisfaction.
Implement tools & processes to share data and market intel with the customer base.
Effectively merge commercial, technical and project skills into an integrated strategy for the successful delivery of a sustainable, scalable retail framework.
Engage with stakeholders across the life-of-a-deal, including SMEs in Trading, Origination, Onboarding, Credit, Finance, Contracts, IT, Scheduling, Risk and Settlements. Seek to understand how they support the retail product and collaborate on ways to improve.
Participate in product development and implementation.


What we need from you


Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field of study.
10 or more years in energy operations, origination, trading, or sales experience is preferred.
7 or more years exposure to retail energy markets.
Previous experience with a retail Commercial & Industrial natural gas model.
Advanced knowledge of natural gas commodity pricing and risk management.
Knowledge of natural gas utility tariffs and operations.
Prior leadership experience. Supervisory experience is a plus.
Demonstrated track record of project delivery in continuous improvement.
Ability to travel every 6-8 weeks to engage with reports in Houston or San Diego.
