Job Description:
Where you fit in
You will become part of a global offshore wind team of 100 direct colleagues with an ambition to triple in the coming years; in the Americas you will start with leading a local team of three, which will grow when workload and opportunity space increases.
The offshore wind team currently operates with a global “one team” mindset and with a strong new business mentality. You need to work in the context of a low cost, fast moving environment with many uncertainties (sometimes requiring the extra hours or out-of-comfort tasks in support of team objectives). You will need to be willing and able to challenge conventional thinking and approaches that have become common place in Shell and in the Wind Industry to arrive at innovative, fit for purpose and effective ways of working.
What is the role?
Shell’s Renewables & Energy Solutions business was created in 2016 and leads the development and growth of Shell’s integrated power business, including low-carbon sources like wind and solar, new mobility options like electric vehicle charging and lower-carbon fuel options like hydrogen for industry and road transport. Shell continues to provide customers with more renewable and low-carbon power, helping customers to switch to these options through energy solutions and decarbonisation services.
For the offshore wind community South America (to include Central America) the candidate will be the go-to person in Shell. As the spearhead growing an energy basin philosophy around our existing assets and new areas for development (such as Brazil, Chile, Mexico, etc) for offshore wind, you are expected to maintain local relationships with government organizations, industry association, supply chain, power and hydrogen/heat sector, technology/research institutes, NGOs, and the wider Shell organization in the Americas and the region. The expectation is that opportunities will be developed in partnerships, the Business Development Manager is expected to be the senior local Shell representative in such cooperation activities.
Success in (offshore) renewable generation is driven by access to resource (wind), power price, cost effective design and supply chain cost, financing arrangements, and access to markets/customers. All these elements are important in the evaluation of prospects, and in being successful in delivering investable business cases. As the industry is growing fast, the competitive landscape is changing and will require innovation at several levels, including commercial and partnering strategies.
Responsibilities:
Lead team in incubating investable business cases for offshore wind developments with pathways to create new local Integrated Power Strategy ambitions (i.e. energy basin concept), and manage internal and external partnerships and interfaces accordingly.
As a member of a global team you will work internationally with commercial colleagues, opportunity leads, technical and finance experts within Offshore Wind and the wider Renewables and Energy Solutions (R&ES) community.
Represent Shell externally at industry boards and events to generate leads that can strengthen Shell’s positioning and participation in future joint ventures.
Support Shell in creating excellent relationships with NGOs and government authorities to drive Shell’s strategic agenda and develop local strategic partnerships.
Evaluate and mature opportunities. In offshore wind this includes leading/guiding the preparation of tenders and investment decisions.
Reviewing/analysing all relevant HSSE, technical, commercial, legal, fiscal, political and organizational aspects of offshore wind opportunities.
Support team in leading conversations and commercial negotiations with 3rd parties.
Create and manage the regional OFW project pipeline, producing regular updates for strategic reviews and gap analysis against the Americas ambitions.
Co-own the offshore wind Feasex (pre-FID) budget allocation for the South America region activities.
Engage with neighbouring countries and offshore wind projects to maximize integrated value and learning opportunities.
Represent OFW organisation internally within Americas Country and Energy Transitioning Team
What we need from you
Must have legal authorization to work in the Brazil on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Bachelor’s Degree required
Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in offshore wind and the power value chain is required
Experience in Power, Renewable Generation, or Offshore Wind can be a deciding factor
Track record in market analysis and strategy development
Leading opportunities and a multi-disciplinary project team from identification to execution
Experience with preparing capital investment decisions
Track record of building and managing relationships, working directly with various businesses and functions as well as 3rd parties to deliver solutions
Proven track record in working in joint ventures, or the governance thereof
Proven track record delivering complex projects effectively, having managed a wide range and diverse set of stakeholders and participants
Problem solving mindset with the courage to ensure professional rigor is applied to commercial decision-making process, performance management and risk management bringing analytics and insights to the tab
Proficiency in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
