Job Description:

Shell's story in China dates back more than 100 years. At Shell China we will make sure that your ideas will travel. All of Shell’s core businesses are now represented in China. We need world-class candidates to continue our drive to innovate and answer the world’s energy needs in socially and environmentally responsible ways.

If you want to play a role in China’s energy transition, then this might be the perfect opportunity for you!

Shell is looking for a Business Development Manager to support our emerging offshore wind business in the country. Harnessing China’s abundant offshore wind energy is poised to be a major lever for China to achieve net zero emissions by 2060.

Where You Fit In

Shell has been an active player in China’s energy industry for over 120 years, and we have started building a customer centric integrated power business, designed to meet our customers evolving need throughout the energy transition.

As the Business Development Manager for Offshore wind China, you will be part of Global Renewable Solutions within New Energies, and reporting into the GM Offshore Wind Asia.

GRS is a growing global organization with in-house capabilities covering the entire life of an (floating) offshore wind farm and more. We work closely with our colleagues from Functions, Project & Technology and in-country teams to develop offshore wind projects with linkages to power trading, hydrogen and ultimately with our customers.

What is the role?

As the Business Development Manager, you will lead the evaluation of potential opportunities with functional experts against commercial, technical and non-technical criteria.

You will be a core member in each phase of the project/asset life cycle. At any point in time you would be contributing to multiple projects and, in future – supporting the management of operating assets. You will maintain day-to-day contacts with partners, suppliers and contractors and will participate on behalf of Shell in Industry Association activities.

In partnership with the country chair office and the corporate relations team you would support the advocacy, where appropriate, ideas that would positively evolve the local offshore wind regulatory framework.

Together with colleagues across New Energies, Shell Energies and wider Shell, you will be advancing a local customer centric integrated power business.

What We Need from You?

This is a key role to realize our offshore wind ambition in China. We’re therefore looking for someone who loves learning, strives, is highly motivated, seeks challenge, driven, committed to improvement, and highly determined.

The successful candidate will need to be comfortable with challenging conventional thinking and approaches to arrive at innovative, pragmatic and effective solutions and ways of working to overcome the challenges and to seize the opportunities inherent to building a new business in an industry that is new to China.

More specifically, the following requirements are must haves:

Ability to speak, read and write Mandarin Chinese at native level and fluency in English.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree education, an MBA is an advantage.
Substantial experience in deal making and joint venture partnership formation with SOEs.
Substantial experience in renewable power generation/offshore wind development in a joint venture setting, ideally you have supported the development of an offshore wind farm before from origination to commissioning.
Significant understanding of the evolving China power market structure, corporate power purchase agreements, renewable energy certificates and offshore wind regulatory framework.
Perseverance and ability to cultivate strong positive working relationships internally and externally to get things done.
Exposure to developing investment cases and having the resilience and resourcefulness to overcome challenges.

An innovative place to work

Join us and you’ll be adding your talent and imagination to a business with the ambition to shape the future – whether by investing in renewables, exploring new ways to store energy or developing technology that helps the world to use energy more efficiently, everyone at Shell does their part.

An inclusive place to work

To power progress together, we need to attract and develop the brightest minds and make sure every voice is heard. Here are just some of the ways we are nurturing an inclusive environment – one where you can express your ideas, extend your skills and reach your potential…

We are creating a space where people with disabilities can excel through transparent recruitment process, workplace adjustments and ongoing support in their roles. Feel free to let us know about your circumstances when you apply, and we’ll take it from there.
We are striving to be a pioneer of an inclusive and diverse workplace, promoting equality for employees regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. We've retained our title as a top employer for women in India for past 3 consecutive years since 2016.
We consider ourselves a flexible employer and want to support you finding the right balance. We encourage you to discuss this with us in your application.

A rewarding place to work

As an equal opportunity employer, combining our ideas through a creative, collaborative environment and global operations – we have developed and will continue to nurture a unique workplace with an impressive range of benefits to ensure that joining Shell is an inspired and rewarding career choice for everyone.
