Job Description:
This role will be responsible for the ethylene sales to strategically manage Shell’s ethylene length in the interim period prior to any further expansions.
The Lower Olefins Ethylene Sales Manager is responsible for managing all short-term merchant market activity transactions (term contracts and spot sales), required to balance the Product Line contract supply imbalances due to short term supply or demand swings. The role will evaluate opportunistic market positions and gather market intelligence to support broader business value growth tactics.
The succLogisticsessful candidate will be required to bring commercial acumen, market know-how and relationship management skills to develop and manage new and existing supplier/customer relationships. The role is pivotal to the evolving strategy of Base Chemicals and the changing dynamics of the olefins market, bridging the longer-term Base Chemicals objectives with the shorter-term market dynamics. As such, the role offers an attractive combination of trading market, commercial, operational and business development elements.
The successful candidate will be part of the regional Lower Olefins Commercial Team in the Americas and will work closely with fellow Sales Managers, Commercial Managers, Base Chemicals Supply Operations, manufacturing optimization teams and the STUSCo Chemical Feed Trading Desk to ensure alignment of objectives and integrated value growth.
Accountabilities:
Business development
Support development of the overall strategy for merchant activity in AM.
Create, develop and maintain a strong commercial presence in the AM market to enhance Shell's profile in the olefins merchant marketplace.
Constantly seek to improve and optimise existing olefin trade flows, devise and implement new value propositions to enhance returns on core business activity.
Gather and share valuable market information and competitive intelligence within the Product Line, Optimization Team and STUSCo. Explore potential intra-regional arbitrage opportunities with EU/APME colleagues.
Investigate, Develop and Perform all imports (purchasing) and exports (sales) of olefins into/from the Shell AM market
Spot deals
Manage and negotiate all spot trading deals with co-producers and consumers, and major trading houses, including tenders. Responsible for determining all aspects of the merchant deals, including pricing level, product availability, freight rates, customer risk and overall exposure.
Take long/short positions on physical olefins movements within specified exposure limits.
Work with Supply Operations to leverage existing exchange deals and explore additional opportunities.
Relationships
Build and maintain strong value creating relationships with key co-producers and develop value-adding market synergies.
Develop constructive relations with existing contract customers and other olefins consumers as well as trading companies to support Shell’s core commercial reputation and profile in the merchant market.
Maintain and develop strong internal relationships with the supply operations and optimization groups, and with STUSCo traders to ensure constant value chain optimization and open information exchange.
Build connections with Shell team counterparts in Europe and Asia to align best practices and develop inter-regional opportunities.
Finance & Controls
Ensure effective risk management of pricing exposure and credit on 3rd party deals.
Work with Chemicals Risk Management team and Chemicals Finance to develop appropriate forward curves for olefins to support value at risk management.
Ensure deal and SAP/Emptoris entry data is completed and available for administration, invoicing and queries
Coordinate and liaise with Supply operations
Prepare and maintain deal files and trading profitability analysis for all buy and sell activities
Contribute to medium to long term margin and working capital improvement initiatives.
Support and leverage broader business value growth and financial targets, including business reporting and appraisal.

Requirements:
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration or equivalent is preferred.
Minimum five (5) years relevant experience in sales.
Thorough understanding of the Chemicals market and its challenges is an advantage
Proven track record of success in commercial business activities; sales or business development.
Strong business analytical and problem-solving skills, commercial mindset.
Excellent interpersonal skills; including experience of and ability to build and manage high-level relationships within large global, complex accounts.
Knowledgeable of Sharepoint and other Microsoft Office tools.
