Manage day-to-day functions of Sports Commission and promote the City of Columbia as a tourist destination to drive overnight hotel stays and economic impact from leisure travelers, specifically in the sports market.
Essential Job Functions
•Assist with attracting amateur sporting events to the city by creating bids, providing bid fees, assisting with bid presentations, securing facilities, and other related activities.
•Work with sports supervisor to develop sports sponsorship programs or other revenue-generating programs for the Sports Commission.
•Develop sales leads, conduct sales activities, and support existing events with the goal of generating overnight stays in the City.
•Maintain relationships with event local hotels, universities, city departments, clubs, and organizations.
•Prepare bids and maintains sales records, work with sports supervisor and industry partners to secure promised bid items (e.g. comp rooms from hotels, sports sponsorships, and volunteers).
Ancillary Job Functions
•Evaluate sports-related offerings in Columbia to continue to improve service delivery.
•Represent the City to various tourism and business associations, boards, and organizations in order to promote Columbia as a tourist destination.
•Perform public relations and administrative tasks for special events and projects as necessary.
•Maintain accurate and up-to-date files on accounts.
•Assist in development of budget and marketing plans
•Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered
•Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Sports Management, Management, Marketing, or closely related field required.
•Minimum three years of experience in a sales and marketing or public administration role.
•Must obtain Tourism Ambassador Certification within 6 months of hire.
•Must possess and maintain valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position
•Knowledge of the principles of sales, business development, sports management, sports tourism marketing, convention and tourism management, budgeting, and public relations.
•Understanding tax credit applications and to complete required documentation.
•Ability to effectively communicate to the press, government organizations, commissions, private businesses, and organizations to promote Columbia’s tourism and visitor services.
•Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
•Interpersonal skills to successfully develop positive intergovernmental, private sector, and community relationships.
•Ability to organize and coordinate a broad range of special projects.

•General office conditions. Exposed to moderate noise levels.
