Profile

The Commercial (Sales) Development Trainee program is a rotational program designed to give you exposure to a variety of different areas within the Tyson Foods Commercial (sales) organization. Develop strong foundational skills and discover more about your career interests while in the program!

The Commercial Development Trainee is responsible for learning a wide variety of activities within the Commercial Division of Tyson Foods. The CDT will work under an experienced supervisor and go through a rigorous 9-18 month rotational training program, designed to provide trainees with the skills needed to build a successful career in the sales organization. The rotational program structure is designed to offer different foundational experiences within our sales division. Trainees will have exposure to not only Retail and Foodservice Sales, but also Sales Support, Category Leadership, Sales Strategy, and more! This position will work with many of these areas through rotations and may require the Trainee to work various shifts during the training phase in order to learn additional facets of the operations.

The Commercial Development Trainee will attend various training programs around sales, communication, systems and other relevant areas to help sharpen skills. The activities are all closely tied to a Sales Competency Model to ensure growth in the needed dimensions of the sales profession.

Essential Job Responsibilities (daily activities may include):


Reporting, forecasting, investigating, and solving problems

Checking stores for pricing and content of Tyson Products and comparing our prices to those of our competitors

Working to acquire new accounts that will carry Tyson Products

Leading meetings with leaders, peers, and team

Traveling often (post-Covid) to attend customer meetings, train with rotation leaders, and immerse in the diverse Tyson culture while learning. This could require temporary reassignment for roughly a month

Presenting at all levels of the organization on a bi-monthly cadence

Setting up and promoting Tyson Brands at both public and independent store food shows, food service distribution & national account customer shows

Staying informed on new products and other general information of interest to the customer

Analyzing customers' menus, providing insights to both the marketing & commercial sales teams and ultimately the customers

Attending and preparing for sales calls, internal meetings and customer meetings and other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:


Education: Requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college is required. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a bachelor’s degree or equivalent

Experience: 1 year of experience preferred, or combination of experience and relevant education (internships)

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be willing to present to large audiences

Special Skills: Ability to analyze data, self-motivated, self-starter, driven, thinking and problem-solving skills, priority setting and teamwork skills; creativity and innovation; ability to act assertively and take initiative. Desire to make a difference in both the business and culture; passionate to understand and represent the needs of our customers

Technical Skills: preference is given to candidates who have ample experience working in Excel. Additional systems trainings are provided during the program

Supervisory: NA

Travel: 30%-75% (post Covid)

Relocation: Must be willing to move if required

Start date: June 2021

Primary Location: Northwest Arkansas or Chicago, IL
