A Retail Territory Manager is responsible for managing the relationship between our client and Retail Business Partners at cluster/site level, ensuring superior and consistent delivery of Customer Commitment and Sales & Operations targets for the territory. The Territory Manager acts as a professional business manager, coach and consultant representing our client’s brand in the competitive retail market.
The role is responsible of the following:
Identify gaps in all aspects of site performance for geographical area and business mandate, advice or offer Retailers recommended tools, processes and support to help them to profitably deliver the Customer Commitment at the Retail site and to develop the business for the mutual benefit of both the Retailer and Shell.
Maximize all sales development potential whilst protecting the company’s interests and reputation, through own actions and effective performance management, through coaching, motivating and inspiring Retailers and peers to deliver higher performance and growth within the marketplace.
Manage and maintain Retailer relationships at site level, supporting Retailers to achieve and maintain top class site performance and consistent delivery of the Customer Commitment in territory.
Lead the attraction and selection of the best Retailers. Build Retailers pipeline and manage succession planning.
Exhibit true passion and commitment in the organization’s journey towards Goal Zero. Position requires the assurance of Operating standards (including HSSE), contracts and manuals in territory and an adherence to safe and responsible operations beyond compromise.
Exhibit true passion and commitment in the organization’s journey toward delivering Customer Promises. Showcase the ability to inspire Retailers and other Territory Managers towards delivering superior customer experience and getting the basics right.
Deliver Sales & Operations targets for geographical and business area through regular reviews and appropriate action plans.
HSSE
•Develop and maintain a strong HSSE culture within territory.
•Deliver agreed HSSE targets.
•Protect interests and reputation by ensuring that all HSSE standards and procedural compliance are adhered to and stakeholder relationships are managed pro-actively.
Customer Coach and support Retailers to:
• Improve on-site operational excellence
• Improve customer perception
• Ensure consistent delivery of Customer Commitment by managing contract compliance and Retailer performance Management of own territory.
People
•Act as supportive and participative team member of the district and wider Retail team and as a role model
•Demonstrate visible leadership, coaching and performance management of Retailers.
•Effectively use appropriate tools (PMTDR, Navigator).
•Ensure that Retailer trains and develops their staff and understands the importance of people in delivering the customer commitment, sharing and coaching on tools and processes as appropriate.
•Actively contribute to recruitment and selection of the best Retailers.
•Develop Retailer succession plans within the territory ensuring Retailer pipeline.
•Actively support Global Reward and Recognition Scheme for Retailers.
Shareholder
Deliver profitability targets, volume targets, differentiated fuels volume targets, convenience retailing targets and operating standards targets.
•Set Retailer business plans and develop action plans to close performance gaps.
•Collaborate with colleagues across Retail to support Marketing and Network initiatives.
•Operational Excellence Plan and conduct site visits, supervise performance in accordance to PMTDR.
•Ensure consistent delivery of customer commitment by managing contract compliance using the territory manager site review (TMSR).
•Implementation and ongoing support of Marketing and Network initiatives.
Additional Information:
This position is instrumental to high potential Talent Development in the Retail Organization. This is a key role to develop stakeholder management and business development management competencies while providing exposure to many elements of the Retail business at the operational level
Special Challenges:
As this is a telecommuting role; individual must be a self-starter and be self-motivated.
Must display strong interpersonal effectiveness skills.
A key challenge within the role is to deliver results through others and ability to manage multiple priorities
The ability to engage and influence Retailers in all matters related to Operational Excellence and Commercial Performance Delivery will be critical.
The position requires strong virtual interaction with District Manager for execution and territory performance communication.
The position requires flexibility and availability for emergency outside of normal working hours
The role of Territory Manager requires strong ownership and accountability of territory performance and results.
Skills and Requirements
What we need from you -
Must have legal authorization to work in the Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelor’s degree is preferred
Minimum of five (5) years work experience in a similar role.
• Evidence of strong leadership attributes (Authenticity, Collaboration, Performance, Growth) and adherence to core values (Honesty, Integrity, Respect for People)
• Must have the drive and passion to compete and to win in the marketplace
• Self-starter and results oriented. Strong past performance and track record for delivery.
• Demonstrable competence in implementing standard processes, achieving sales targets, building relationships, delivering customer commitments.
• Ability to respond quickly to changing priorities and multiple parallel activities
• Ability to work with ambiguity and uncertainty Experience in different areas of the Retail business- Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal)
• High mobility and existing driver's license
• Professional Retail experience and a good overall understanding of the Retail business will therefore be an advantage in any application. However, we do not exclude the possibility that outstanding candidates without Retail experience could be selected. In this case, candidates are expected to:
*Show evidence of a professional work style, including conflict handling and building strong, long-lasting relationships (both internally and externally)
*Work according to existing and new processes and standards and still be creative
*Have the ability to show initiative and self-start
*Display a proven track-record of persistency and maximized business opportunities
*Have proof of strong performance even at times of great change and under pressure
*Previous experience in Retail Marketing, Retail Pricing, Operations & Support, Network, Commercial Fuels, Sales and Supply/Distribution is highly valued
