An exciting opportunity to contribute to Shell’s New Energies Offshore Wind team in leading the energy transition through offering more and cleaner energy to customers.
What’s the role?
We are looking for a country lead that could lead a multidisciplinary team to drive the identification and the successful realization of offshore wind development opportunities in China. This role is pivotal to Shell’s aspiration to become a relevant participant in the energy transition and to provide more and cleaner energy to China. The role reports to the General Manager for Offshore Wind in Asia and can either be based in Shanghai or Beijing.
Some of the key accountabilities of this role are:
Strategy and execution: Responsible for the development, maintenance and execution of the overall strategy for the Chinese offshore wind market with support from the wider Shell organization.
Opportunity management: Accountable for the identification and realization of approved project opportunities with the right partnerships in close collaboration with functional experts. The opportunity scope ranges from greenfield origination of offshore wind projects, buying into (existing early stage) projects to partnership formations, and participation in auctions;
Business & Market development: Develop an intimate understanding of the business and regulatory environment and build the necessary relationships with potential partners, industry associations, regulators and other stakeholders to shape and progress Shell’s strategic plan.
Leadership: Lead and develop a multidisciplinary (project) teams that are integrated into the wider Shell organization and enable local capability building by developing individual team members.

What we need from you
Offshore Wind business operates as a globally integrated organization with a strong start-up mentality. You would need to feel comfortable to work in a fast-moving environment driven by a dynamic market. This is a key role to develop Shell’s Offshore Wind presence in China. You must be a strong commercial leader with proven ability and the resilience to build a renewable power generation business in an emerging industry environment. The nature of this role may require at times the extra hours or out-of-comfort tasks in support of the business objectives. You will need to be willing and able to challenge conventional thinking and approaches to arrive at innovative, pragmatic and effective solutions and ways of working.
The successful candidate will ideally have experience and skills in the following:
Demonstrated experience in leading offshore wind development projects from early stage to FID and beyond or equivalent renewable power generation assets in China;
Possession of a degree in engineering and an MBA are considered advantageous;
Understanding of the China offshore wind competitive landscape, electricity market structure, PPAs, permitting and consenting and the evolving regulatory environment are considered advantageous; Proven ability to create and maintain positive relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at various levels of seniority;
Self-starter with strategic thinking skills and a strong bias for ‘getting things done’ in a collaboratively manner whilst not losing sight of the details and the bigger picture;
Good understanding of commercial value creation, financing, deal structuring and an ability to identify and mitigate the key risks that could erode value (including reputation and HSSE).
Demonstrated ability to conduct commercial negotiations and an understanding of joint venture and governance models;
Demonstrated experience in leading and building multidisciplinary and international teams.
Native Mandarin Chinese language abilities and business fluency in English;
Strong commercial acumen, data driven decision making and an inclusive and collaborative mindset that will deliver business objectives in a structured approach.
