Sales Engineer, Energy Solutions
What is the role?
The Solutions Development group is an integral part of Shell’s Global Renewables & Energy Solutions strategic theme. Solution Development’s vision is to enable customer choice and empowerment to lead cleaner, more productive, affordable, and more convenient lives by providing market-leading energy solutions. Our team positions Shell to capture value created by the increasingly distributed nature of the electricity grid and the emergence of cost-competitive distributed and digital technologies.
Solutions Development is responsible for developing, delivering, and continuously improving a portfolio of new products, services, and business models in the Energy Solutions space aiming to meet the current and future needs of commercial, industrial, and institutional customers. Solutions Development plays an end to end role in development of Energy Solutions and deploys, aggregates, and monetizes distributed energy resources (DERs). Its fully-wrapped DER solutions and facility analytics offering enable load flexibility, lower energy costs, resilient power, and sustainable electricity supply including:
Building load management
Automated demand response
Energy efficiency
Solar and energy storage
Emissions analytics and site decarbonization strategies
Responsibilities:
Partner with the regional sales teams to develop optimal onsite renewable energy solutions and high-quality proposals for customers
Team with Account Managers and Business Development in engaging customers to effectively translate their energy needs, value drivers and constraints into viable solutions
Working with Energy Solutions Analytics team, Project Developers and Contracting & Procurement, and regional deployment partners to lead end to end solution pricing, and proposal development through customer approval
Support the Solutions Project Managers as required in the deployment of approved solutions at customer sites
Willing to travel as necessary to attend customer site visits and contractor engagements.
Strong interpersonal skills, both written and oral, and an ability to communicate complex ideas through emails, RFPs, and live engagements.
What we need from you
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelor of Science Degree in a technical field (Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is preferred). Suitable non-engineering candidates with relevant experience will be considered.
Minimum 5 years prior working experience in a Sales Engineering role within an Energy Services Company, Commercial Solar Developer, or Electrical Utility.
Self-motivated with a consistent track record in solution engineering and sales and knowledge of onsite energy technologies and customer value drivers.
A fundamental technical background gained through direct experience deploying customer sited energy solutions (e.g. solar, energy conservation measures, electric vehicle charging)
Familiarity with the tools and methods used to create energy savings calculations, solar generation estimates, and/or integrated onsite renewable technology deployments (Helioscope, HOMER, Energy Toolbase etc.) and ability to engage analytics teams for utilization thereof.
Familiarity with the US power markets and tariff structures
Comfortable working for a dynamic organization with a fast-growing customer base with diverse needs
