Responsibilities
As a retail sales merchandiser, it is your responsibility to assist the manufacturer and the retailer to maximize sales volume. All objectives are achieved via execution, promotion and education.
A retail sales merchandiser ensures stock levels are maintained properly and that there is an abundant display of merchandise available to offer. This includes checking the placement, displayed appropriate signs, shelving, execution of plans, setups, products placement like facing, fronting, rotating etc.
Audits must be performed by a retail sales merchandiser on a regular basis. The person in this position must also solve all problems that are discovered from the audits, ensure the store is properly and neatly organized and ensure the store meets all standards for sales generation. Other responsibilities of a good retail sales merchandiser include sales volume monitoring, inspection and tracking of inventory, store maintenance, material promotion, etc.
They do business networking and maintain a rapport with store personnel in order to understand about product brand and promotions. They think of new ways to decorate the display windows using jazzy signs, creative cutouts, lights and shelving techniques.
Skills Required
They must be creative and have the capability to think out of the box. The position of retail sales merchandiser requires candidates to have time management skills, work independently, and do multi-tasking. The person also should also have good decision making and problem solving skills. In addition, candidates must possess strong communications skills and analysis skills.
This is a position that demands merchandise handling and constant traveling. The candidate must have proper knowledge of safety and proper business practices. Candidates applying for this position must have knowledge of products offered so that they can recommend appropriate items to potential customers.
Education
College is required but it is not a mandatory requirement for the position of a retail sales merchandiser. If one possesses a degree or certification in marketing, business or retail, then the chances of getting a job as a retail merchandiser are high.
This job is available both as full time and part-time/contract basis. Most of the retail sales merchandiser is paid an hourly wage of approximately $15 per hour. There are full time merchandisers who have an average annual salary of $44,000 to $82,000 with bonuses as well as commissions. A retail sales merchandiser may also be eligible for receiving an allowance and also travel expenses as well if the task is for the benefit of the retail outlet.
