The moderator then followed with, ''OK, what do you do to show that you are really selling? For example, do you read books on sales? Do you consciously incorporate sales in research? And at the end, asked them to write sales and marketing your resume? Then he asked: ''Is there anyone in finance and accounting, such as controllers or CFOs? Some of them raised their hands.
His comments brought following the nail when he said: ''So if I am a sales professional, as a vice president of sales and made a budget, I think I'm qualified for the work. I neither need training nor do I need to read books. I just say, I am a CFO and that makes me a CFO.'' Of course, the group was snickering and laughing on such a ridiculous statement. Meanwhile, everyone could be trained in sales.
Most candidates do not know what it means to be a seller. They understand the concept intellectually, but you do not know how to take the concept and practice. The transition requires a candidate to change perspective. They need to come out of their comfort zone in the filed of sales and marketing. Even the vendors do not seem to understand this concept, while in transition. For this reason, we recommend that you take up marketing consultant as a career and here sales will be helpful to you.
You must learn to become a seller. This includes prospecting, overcoming objections, which is a sales presentation, know your competitors and why you are better to identify why you are different from anybody else, with a sales pitch. You should read some books on sales; attend a sales training webinar or take up a course; practice on your sales presentations; and prepare yourself as a true professional person selling it. So please stop saying that you are selling and go out and become a seller.
