Break Down To Smaller Goals
Goals are a good thing. When they are huge at the beginning, they can lead to setbacks and frustration, and eventually failure. But, when you look at the smaller picture it becomes a little easier to handle. However, there is a fine line between breaking down to smaller goals and getting carried away with it. Daily, weekly, and monthly goals should all be used so you will know where you are at all times.
A manager I had while working at a car dealership used to tell us not to look at the big number, but at the daily number. If you can sell that number of cars each day, then you can easily meet the goal. Most of the time, the number was easily achieved because it was smaller.
Continually Find New Customers
Basic math says that when you have more opportunities to sell your products you will increase your sales. If you continually keep your customer base at the same level your opportunities to sell more products will never increase. Meeting goals gets easier when you market your business, your products, or your services to a wider customer base.
Plan Your Month
Once you've taken your overall goal and have broken it down to smaller, attainable goals, then conceive a plan to reach it. If you constantly show up to work to just go through the motions then you'll always receive the same results. Frustration and a sense of urgency are your daily companions. If you have a plan then you are getting into a place where momentum and motivation are always near.
Sit down with a blank piece of paper and begin to plan out how you will reach each level of your monthly goal. Be specific in your plan so it keeps you motivated by seeing the ''how'' instead of a generality.
Continue Moving Ahead
Planning out your month is an essential part of exceeding your monthly sales goals, but without actual movement of your plan, you are still not doing anything. Continue to move forward, even when things don't go well. If you have to make some changes to adapt to economic pressures, and costs, then do so. But, the key to exceeding your monthly sales goals is to continue selling and not get discouraged.
Constantly evaluate where you are, what you need to change, and rejoice in the wins. This will keep you motivated to continue exceeding your sales goals.
