While not all business trips are good opportunities for family travel, many of them are. Consider the city you are going to. Have business to do in Houston, TX? Squeeze in a trip to the Six Flags amusement park, a tour of the NASA space center, or a night of ice-skating at the Galleria. Going to Los Angeles, CA? Carve out a day in your schedule for a walk down Hollywood Boulevard, playing in the ocean, or dinner at Universal City Walk. Have a conference in Washington, DC? Make time for a tour of the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, or Arlington National Cemetery.
Chances are there will be something entertaining and/or educational for you and your family to do in almost every major city in the U.S. A good time for family business travel is during the summer months, when you can book a room at a hotel with plenty of kid-friendly amenities.
Get a room at a hotel with a swimming pool, hot tub, on-site restaurant, continental breakfast, Pay-Per-View video games and movies, and a decent view, and your family can hang out and relax during the day until you are done with your responsibilities.
At night, you can kick back, go out to dinner, see some local sights, take in a movie, or simply relax in the hotel room. You can order room service and a movie for the kids, finish up your work for the day, and spend some quiet time with your husband or wife.
However, if you are traveling alone with kids, consider going to a hotel that offers daytime activities for your children, such as a Hyatt hotel.
According to Forbes Magazine, "In 1989, Hyatt Hotels created Camp Hyatt, which now exists at 16 Hyatt resorts in the U.S. and Caribbean. Each kid-friendly camp's theme plays off of its location. For example, at the Lost Pines Resort and Spa in Austin, Texas, kids make junk jewelry out of pecan shells. And at the Tamaya Resort and Spa near Santa Ana, NM, your child can create a miniature adobe or dabble in the art of sand painting."
