WorldGate Service, Inc., has finally realized the telecommunication device we have seen portrayed for years in cartoons and futuristic cinematic dwellings with its development of the Ojo™ PVP-1000 Personal Video Phone. The day has finally come when we have the option of looking at the person with whom we are speaking on the phone.

The incredible Ojo videophone has a slick design that makes it both convenient to use and attractive. Complete with user-friendly features, the Ojo videophone is comprised of the latest in video technology, which is demonstrated by its high-quality synchronized audio, high-resolution video, and lack of noticeable delay.

Designed for a pleasurable visual experience, the screen is capable of resting precisely at eye level, and the camera comes with a self-viewer. The user can engage in hands-free conversation using its full-duplex speakerphone.

The phone is simple to install and uses existing high-speed Internet connections. No PC is necessary, and it operates with the facility of a typical telephone. It includes 20 minutes of video messaging and one-touch video and audio privacy controls. Additionally, the user has the option of making conventional voice-only calls using his or her existing household phone number. The phone includes a picture-based caller-ID phonebook, as well.

The phone has a 7" LCD monitor with a 480 by 854-pixel resolution that contains backlighting, anti-glare coating, automatic gain control, and a color-image sensor of ¼". Its dimensions are 14" by 8.5" by 7.5", it weighs 2.5 pounds, and it has a 30-watt consumption and a 100-240 VAC/60 Hz AC power adapter.

Its cordless handset is 6.25" by 1.6" by 0.8" and weighs 5 ounces. It has a battery charge time of 12 hours, a talk time of six hours, and a standby time of 96 hours. Its range is 100 feet, and it has an LCM display and a wireless interface standard of 2.4 GHz. The Ojo videophone is CE-, CSA-, FCC Part 15-, FCC Part 68-, and UL-certified.

The videophone comes in two models: the Ojo (PVP 1000), which has a few more bells and whistles and costs $399 and the Ojo "Shadow" (PVP 900), which costs $299. Service is provided for a low flat fee of $9.99 per month, which includes unlimited 24/7 Ojo-to-Ojo calls with video messaging.

Currently, the phone and service are available for purchase online, in stores such as CompUSA, J&R Electronics, Tweeter, and Hammacher Schlemmer, and through telecom resellers (i.e., British Telecom, GlobalTouch Telecom, NZ Telecom, etc.). You will never look at your phone the same way again!
